Last minute vacations save my social life

Last minute vacations save my social life

There are loads of benefits to having a successful career, but believe me when I say that having a full and active social life isn’t one of them. And planning a vacation can be a complete nightmare. I’ve lost count of the number of vacations I’ve had to cancel because of an impromptu board meeting.

It doesn’t always go down well with the better half either . . . I’ve had to spend some serious cash on making ups for cancelled vacations with my girlfriend. Now a days I’ve wised up a bit and ensure that when I book vacation time, I don’t book my vacation there and then. Instead I wait until a could of days before and then have a look for some last minute vacations. You know there are some great places online to find those last minute deals and one of the best thing is that I often get an even better deal than I would have if I’d have pre-booked by a couple of months or so.

Last minute vacations also add a new dimension of excitement to my away time. Putting pressure on yourself to book a last minute deal means that you can end up going almost anywhere in the world . . . I’ve been all over the place . . . Europe, Asia, Africa, and a little closer to Canada including the US and Jamaica. Admittedly, booking last minute vacations isn’t right for everyone, but for someone as busy as myself, this type of vacation is ideal.

Timing your Trip

Timing your Trip

As you look over your calendar to pick a time of year for your travels, you should know that there are names given for different times of the year.  There is the peak season which is June, July and August, the off season that is seen as November through March and in between is the shoulder season known as April and May.  Each season has its good factors and its bad.
Many people always choose summer time to travel either because that is the best weather to travel in or that they have kids who have summer vacation at that time.  Summer is the typical time for many travellers and even though the temperatures are the best, there will also be crowds.  Keep this crowd in mind when you are timing your next trip. No matter where you go, flights to London or flights to Brazil, the peak season will always have the biggest crowd.

Europe draws many travellers in the peak season because of the long days and exciting nightlife.  You can help yourself by choosing place to see that offer no promotional budgets.  These deals determine that destinations fame and so the tourist will be attracted.  If you rent a car you can avoid the typical tourist spots and get out of the well worn routes where everyone seem to go.

Using Mobile Broadband to Communicate on Holiday

Using Mobile Broadband to Communicate on Holiday

In this age of technology, a main mode of communication for many includes the internet. Even while on holiday, many need the internet to connect with others, such as clients, friends and family members. It is a fast and convenient way to keep in touch and keep track of business. Being away from the home or office computer can be difficult when so much of your communication is doing via the internet. However, using mobile broadband while on holiday can assist you with getting business done abroad and still connecting with friends and family. You can use it while traveling and on the go, wherever mobile service is available.

Most Smartphones have the capability to download a social network app that allows you to connect instantly with your social networks via Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and more. You can check others’ statuses, update your own and send messages to friends and family. You can also access various web pages using your mobile broadband to do such activities as checking your email, watching streamed television and listening to the internet radio. If you prefer to communicate via instant messages, you can log into your Yahoo! Messenger, AIM or Skype accounts. Using your mobile broadband while on vacation allows you to enjoy your time away from home, yet gives you the flexibility to log into your accounts and communicate whenever possible or necessary.

The High Life

The High Life

We’ve heard that so many times: this guy or that woman have got the life! They spend their holidays at luxury tropical resorts, stay in luxury hotels when they’re in town and drive around in state of the art sports cars that always look like they’re fresh out of the dealership.

Asides from a well paid job, rich parents or a nice trust fund, what makes these people so good with living the high life? I’ve honestly investigated this and realized it’s a mix between being raised with it and simple boredom. There’s no way you’ll look like you belong in a five star hotel if you’re excited about the fact that you’re there, maybe taking pictures of each corner you find. There’s also no way someone who was born in a sports car has a need to make it known to everyone, being by showing off its speed at a red light or by playing really loud German disco music in the stereo.

So the end result is somewhat strange and perhaps even a little ironic. People who belong in the high life act like they hate it. Or at least like they see no perks in it. So if you’re ever in a luxury hotel, look bored.

Choosing Your Hotel

Choosing Your Hotel

No matter your destination, you will have more accommodation options to choose from than anything else. Everything from cheap hostels, to luxury hotels can be found anywhere you go. Hotels in Bedfordshire alone will provide you with more options than you’ll know what to do with. Here are some ideas to help you decide.

Besides the obvious accessibility and availability criteria, the second most popular search preferences involve facilities. Do you want a swimming pool in the hotel? Do you want a restaurant or bar in the lobby? Do you want access to a gym and spa? These will be other deciding factors to consider when narrowing down your options.

If you have access to a car, whether it be your own or via car hire, you will also have to choose where you prefer it is located. If you don’t have access to a car you are better off choosing a hotel in the city’s center. Close vicinity to public transportation will be essential for sight seeing. If you can have use of your own car, you can choose something on the beach, or in the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This will depend on your own personal preference.

Why hire?

Why hire?

So many people choose to drive to work every day, and those people wouldn’t think twice about taking their car on their holiday. However, this is sometimes not the best option. Naturally, a short drive to the beach doesn’t exactly warrant a trip to a rental company, but a long drive may have you think twice about it.

The obvious factor in choosing to rent a car instead of taking your own is the car’s size. If you drive a small city car and you want to take your family across the country, than you probably need a bigger vehicle. But even if your own car is big enough, there are still reasons that can have you at least consider car hire.

You need to look at the price you pay for a rental car and compare it to how much you’ll save on wear to your personal vehicle. A large trip may require a large checkup, new brake pads and new tires, not to mention the actual wear on the car that you’ll have to deal with eventually. The rental car, with all its flaws, is still a car you can abuse without feeling too guilty. So consider all your options before starting that road trip.

Car Upgrades

Car Upgrades

Choosing to rent a car for any given reason is always a move people fear. We’ve all been at that place, that we think we’d be more comfortable in a car, but maybe financially it’s not the best option – surely not as good as public transport – and we’re torn between that. Car hire prices seem to fluctuate a little bit from company to company, and there’s definitely a difference between the cars available that makes the choice a little more complicated. Keeping an eye out for deals is essential when renting cars, as well as knowing the ropes of rental companies.

One of the things that’s a red flag is the “upgrade”. When you’re renting a compact car it often happens that the company will offer to upgrade you to a larger car. They’ll probably tell you that they don’t have any more cars in your category, and will bump you one or two categories above for the same price. But this is often not true, the companies just know that they’re the cars in higher demand and want to have a few in stock for late renters. But it doesn’t necessarily need to be a bad thing. Just consider your options and see if the added comfort makes up for the extra gas expenditure.

Cruise Line Fans

Cruise Line Fans

Travelers who prefer cruises are often dedicated and loyal to this specific kind of holiday. They spend every vacation on a cruise, and know all the best cruise liners and destinations. Because cruise itineraries are so diverse, and span the entire globe, every journey is a unique experience. No two cruises are alike. So if you’re a fan of cruises, you should know that there is a unique community just for you. Many cruise fanatics participate in forums, such as CruiseLineFans, where you can discuss your favorite holidays and share experiences. If you are new to the world of cruise vacations, you can ask questions to seasoned travelers who have first hand experience. You can find out what the best cruise liners are, what itinerary would suit your holiday needs, and ask for recommendations from those who have been on board.

Even if you have only been on one cruise, there are many different trips and adventures to discover. Asking for input from fellow travelers is a great way to plan the perfect holiday. Get an idea of what the cruise is like from a first hand perspective, know what to avoid and look out for, and how to find the best deals.

Pick the Best, Ignore the Rest

Pick the Best, Ignore the Rest

The world of travel agencies is filled with discount cruises, cruise deals, budget cruises and inexpensive cruise travel. And it’s easy to get lost among all the low prices that are thrown at you, and sometimes there’s fine print that you’re not being shown. My best advice in this, which is true for any travel package that you may be looking into, is be prepared. Go online, talk with friends or people you know that have gone on cruises and get a general feel of what you may get for your money. And I know it’s easy to be suspicious of travel agency sellers, but just be frank with them and tell them what you expect out of the cruise and what you already know you can get. Letting them know that you’re informed is the first step for them to be honest with you.

And don’t be afraid to say that something is too expensive and to batter them with questions. And don’t be afraid to walk out and go somewhere else – those deals aren’t going anywhere, no matter what the person says. Be persistent and stick to your guns and you’ll be the happier man for it.

Booking Package Holidays: Are they really worth it?

Booking Package Holidays: Are they really worth it?

Allowing a company to put your holiday getaway together as a package deal may not be a deal at all. Companies are constantly fighting to put together package holidays that appeal to the most travelers, regardless of the pressures they may put on a vacationing person or group.

Package holidays often bundle travel, accommodations, food and entertainment to create an itinerary that includes so much at once the company providing the package can receive huge savings, passing along only a slight discount to individual travelers. Often times the package holidays jam a traveler’s days full with things to do, places to see, people to meet and so much going on that it may be hard to fully enjoy the holidays.

Also, they sometimes fail to take into consideration basic traveling needs- such as allowing extra time to pass through security or customs at an airport, to ensure enough time between connecting flights to actually get where you’re headed with ease. While booking your entire trip may seem like a lot to decide, why not really enjoy your holidays and wait before deciding on package holidays that may rush you through them? It is your holiday after all, take your time to see what suits you best.
